WELLNESS CARE

We make every effort to prevent illness and disease whenever possible.    Yearly vaccinations and health exams are recommended to help detect early signs of these problems. We will develop a yearly physical examination program tailored to your pet that may include vaccinations, spaying and neutering, blood profiles, parasite control, and possibly heartworm prevention.

SURGERY

We use current medical and surgical techniques and technology so we can make your pets surgery as safe as possible. While your pet is having surgery we take many steps to reduce their risk, including, using Isofluoraine anaesthetic, patient monitoring using blood pressure machines, heart rate monitors, breathing monitors, oxygen saturation monitors, heating pads to maintain their body temperature and where, an I.V. line is used, a fluid warmer to make sure fluids entering the body are a constant temperature. We recommend that all pets undergoing general anaesthetic have pre-surgical blood work done and in some cases an I.V. line may be recommended as well. Careful attention is paid to each patient’s needs and comfort while they are in the hospital.

In some cases where additional expertise is needed we may refer you to a board certified surgeon for further work.

DENTAL CARE

Dental care is extremely important to the health of your pet and in some cases to the longevity of your pet. Routine annual dental exams and possibly cleanings should be done on every animal. Dental disease can affect many organs in the body and can cause serious diseases in your pet; organs affected by dental disease include the kidney, liver, lungs and heart. We have full dental facilities to assist in maintaining healthy teeth and gums. Dental cleanings include an ultrasonic cleaning of the teeth, polishing, and fluoride treatments. Extractions may be needed in some animals; we have dental drills and dental radiology to assist in some cases. All dental procedures are done under  general anaesthetic

LABORATORY AND DIAGNOSTICS

Our on site laboratory allows for many tests to be done immediately in the clinic allowing for quick results. Some samples are sent out to a laboratory for more in depth analysis and we usually get results within 24 hours. Our doctors will contact you when the results arrive or if you wish you may set up an appointment to come and talk to the doctor in person about the results. Laboratory equipment present in the clinic includes a blood chemistry machine, QBC machine, microscope, centrifuge, and ECG machine

HOSPITALIZATION

If your pet does need to be hospitalized we have a fully equipped hospital facility. All patients that are hospitalized are assessed regularly throughout the day and you will be updated about their condition by one of our staff through the day. We have an incubator for  smaller pets and I.V. fluid pumps to maintain the fluid intake of every hospitalized animal. If you wish to visit a pet in the hospital we will arrange a time for you to visit, in some extreme cases visiting may be limited. In case of contagious disease we may recommend that you do not visit to reduce the potential spread of the disease. In some cases we may recommend transferring of your pet to an emergency clinic over night or over a Sunday.

RADIOLOGY

We have an x-ray machine and developing equipment in the clinic. This enables us to take and develop the x-rays in a short period of time so we can get the diagnosis as quickly as possible. We can also take x-rays immediately in case of emergency.

PHARMACY

We have an in house pharmacy that allows us to quickly prescribe and dispense medications as recommended by the veterinarian. We also can make most prescriptions up into a flavoured liquid, which can make administration of the medications easier on you and your pet. In some cases it may be necessary to order medications in or send you with a prescription to take to a pharmacy to have filled

IDENTIFICATION

Permanent identification is recommended for every pet, there are 2 main ways of doing this. The first is through a city identification tattoo, the     second is a microchip. Some clients choose to do both, but we would be happy to discuss both options with you
